Rapper Toronto continues his monumental run on streaming services as he becomes the first hip-hop act to surpass the 1 Billion mark on Spotify in 2022. This award was won by the rapper only one and a half months into this year. The rapper is now the only artist to surpass 1 billion subscribers on Spotify this year, along with The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift and BTS.
The recent studio album "Certified Lover Boy" played a major role in achieving this milestone on Spotify. Over 2 billion streams have been generated since it was released in November. A project of his has also been streamed over 2 billion times on Spotify, making him the first artist in history with two billion streams.
Drake's latest album was the top-selling rap album in 2021, earning him a double platinum status. In addition, it was revealed that the "God's Plan" rapper was the #1 most streamed artist in the US in 2021. A song by Champagne Papi was streamed every 131 times out of 8.6 billion on-demand streams.
