Ryan Gosling almost joined the already star-studded Atlanta cast.
In a People magazine interview on the night of the season 3 premiere, show creator Donald Glover said he and Gosling are discussing a possible guest role.
Glaver did not reveal what character Gosling would have played, but he said the part is perfect for the Oscar-nominated actor.
“He said he was a big fan, but he had something else, and it just didn’t work out,” Glover told the publication. “I was so bummed because the part was so great for him!”
Glover, who stars in Atlanta as well, said he and Gosling talked over the phone about the role, but the First Man actor had to back out due to a last-minute conflict. It is not clear if Gosling's role was cancelled or if it was handed over to someone else.
In a 2017 interview with Metro, Gosling expressed interest in joining Atlanta.
“I don’t know if there’s a place for me on the show Atlanta, but I’m a big fan of that show,” he said when asked about which series he’d like to make a cameo in.
He made the remarks between Atlanta seasons 1 and 2. Despite not being able to appear in the dramedy since the final episode has already been shot, there is still a chance he could collaborate with Glover on another small-screen role. Glover is currently working on projects for Amazon, which includes a Janine Nabers series that will reportedly focus on a "Beyonce-like character." Former first daughter Malia Obama is working on that project as a writer.
