Now footage circulating in connection with the still-under-discussion Oscars slap is purportedly showing Jada Pinkett Smith laughing after the incident, in which her husband Will Smith did slap comedian Chris Rock.
Entertainment Tonight and others have highlighted the clip, which shows the King Richard actor returning to his seat after being slapped. Rock is heard commenting on the incident (i.e. "Will Smith just smacked the shit out of me"), Jada is seen appearing to laugh, as are others present. The laughter in the room is heard diminishing once Smith tells Rock to “keep my wife’s name out your fucking mouth.”
Watch the clip below. The same video was also shared on TikTok by actor and comedian Michael Rapaport, who has been posting a number of questionable Oscars slap-related posts in recent days. Meanwhile, additional social media clips shared recently show Rock looking stunned after the incident.
There have been an endless number of takes since Sunday night's incident, as well as a few updates from those involved. A statement from Smith, who won the evening's Best Actor award, apologized to the Academy and Rock on social media. During a recent stand-up performance, the latter addressed the slap and indicated he would have more to say in the near future.
The ongoing debate has repeated mentions of how the Academy and other institutions handled prior industry controversies.
