Warner Bros. is working on a sequel to I Am Legend, nearly fifteen years after it came out.
Deadline and Variety report that Will Smith will reprise his role in the upcoming film opposite Michael B. Jordan.
Jordan will also produce the movie alongside his co-star. Akiva Goldsman, who adapted the 2007 film from the Richard Matheson 1954 novel, will be penning the sequel script. A director has not yet been chosen.
Upon its release on Dec. 14, 2007, I Am Legend made the then-largest ever box office opening for a non-Christmas film released in December. In addition to earning a combined $585 million, the film earned $256 million domestically and $329 million internationally.
Earlier this month, Smith won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for the role of Richard, Serena and Venus Williams' father, in King Richard for Warner Bros. This year, Smith earned a nomination for Best Actor at the Academy Awards.
Jordan, who recently appeared in Denzel Washington's A Journal for Jordan and is set to star in Creed III, which is due out on November 23, 2022.
