"I Want To Be The First Major In The Metaverse," says Snoop Dogg when asked about Death Row Records

As Death Row Records' new owner revealed plans to turn it into the first NFT label, Snoop Dogg surprised fans yesterday at the Clubhouse.
The video below shows Snoop saying that Death Row will be on the NFT label. He states, "We'll be releasing artists via the metaverse." Just like we broke the industry when we was the first independent [label] to be major, I want to be the first major [label] in the metaverse.”
Just a week ago, Snoop partnered with blockchain game developer Gala Games to drop a stash box containing a large amount of NFTs as part of the launch of his new album B.O.D.R. (Bacc on Death Row).
Priced at $5,000, the Gala Music version of the album features one of the LP’s 17 songs as an NFT, as well as three exclusive bonus tracks.
“If anything is constant, it’s that the music industry will always be changing,” Snoop said in a press release. “Blockchain tech has the power to change everything again and tip the table in favor of the artists and the fans, and we’re going to be right at the front of the pack with this Gala Music deal.”
Death Row Records was acquired by the Long Beach rapper last week from MNRK Music Group, which bought the rights to the company in 2019 for $4 billion from Hasbro.
“I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value,” Snoop said in a statement. “It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members.”
