Jennifer Lopez on Co Headlining Super Bowl Halftime With Shakira: ‘Worst Idea in the World’

Comments from Jennifer Lopez in an upcoming Netflix documentary about co-headlining the Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show stage with Shakira has led to divisiveness between each artist’s fan base.

In a scene from J. Lo’s Halftime documentary, which recently held its premiere at the Tribeca Festival in New York City, Lopez spoke candidly about the plan to have two headliners for the 2020 Super Bowl.

“This is the worst idea in the world to have two people do the Super Bowl,” she said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “It was the worst idea in the world.”

Lopez added, “If it was going to be a double-headliner, they should have given us 20 minutes. That’s what they should’ve fucking done.”

In another scene from the doc, Lopez’s longtime manager Benny Medina reiterates the singer’s frustrations.

“Typically, you have one headliner at a Super Bowl,” he explained. “That headliner constructs a show, and, should they choose to have other guests, that’s their choice. It was an insult to say you needed two Latinas to do the job that one artist historically has done.”

While it could be argued that Lopez’s comments weren’t aimed at Shakira but rather a criticism in how the halftime show was planned, people on social media are taking sides and claiming that each respective singer holds the upper hand. One tweet in particular has gone viral, with the user claiming, “Shakira was never bigger than J Lo EVER in her career and I Love Shakira.” A majority of the responses defend Shakira and downplay Lopez’s accomplishments.
