Kid Cudi Joins Cast of ‘Silent Night', John Woo’s New Action-thriller

After his winning performances in Don’t Look Up and X, Kid Cudi has joined the cast of John Woo’s latest action-thriller Silent Night.

The rapper and actor will portray Detective Dennis Vassel in the film, according to a press release. He’s set to star alongside Joel Kinnaman, Harold Torres, and Catalina Sandino Moreno. Production is already underway in Mexico City. Silent Night promises to tell the story of a father, played by Kinnaman, on a revenge mission after his son is killed by gang violence on Christmas Eve.

The script for Silent Night was penned by Robert Lynn. Thunder Road Films, the production company behind the John Wick series, is producing alongside Capstone Studios.

Silent Night will be director John Woo’s first western production since 2003’s Paycheck. Prior to that, Woo rose to prominence with a series of Hong Kong-produced action films including A Better Tomorrow, Bullet in the Head, and Hard Boiled. He also directed modern classics like Face/Off and Mission: Impossible 2.

Woo’s distinctive and innovative style of action has been cited as a major influence on many western filmmakers, including Quentin Tarantino.

“It’s a good day when Deadline posts about u,” Cudi tweeted about the news. “Can’t wait for y’all to see this masterpiece from the GOD John Woo. Joel what’s good!!”

The rapper has been diving headfirst into acting, with aforementioned performances in Ti West’s slasher X and Adam McKay’s comedy Don’t Look Up. Netflix recently announced Cudi will direct and star in Teddy, which will be co-produced by Jay-Z.
