Following the release of her sophomore studio album 777, Latto has recruited Mariah Carey and DJ Khaled to remix her hit single "Big Energy."
Monday morning, Latto took to Twitter to share some details about the remix.
“I originally thought Mariah for the remix back in like November when it first started going up, but didn’t think I could get her realistically,” she wrote. “Fast fwd I said fuck it and reached out. She was down.”
Latto expressed her admiration for Mariah when asked what it was like to meet the R&B legend.
“I was so nervous,” she revealed. “I was like what do I say y’all lol but the conversation just floweddd she was so genuine and I definitely was overthinking. We was sipping on her liquor Black Irish & just kicking it fr.”
This release comes in the wake of 777, Latto's follow-up to his 2020 debut Queen of da Souf. In addition to the previously released single "Big Energy" and the 21 Savage-featuring "Wheelie," 777 features guest appearances by Lil Wayne, Childish Gambino, Lil Durk, Nardo Wick, and Kodak Black.
Ahead of the release of her latest full-length offering, Latto spoke to Complex about why she chose a pop-leaning sound for “Big Energy,” and how it would showcase her versatility.
“I wanted to solidify myself and where I fit in the industry,” she explained. “This is just the first introduction. ‘Big Energy’ is the pop sound from this project. I got an R&B sound. I got the rap trap sound. I got some rhythmic stuff that I did with Pharrell, just different swaggy stuff.”
In terms of what else she has planned for 2022, Latto said that she may release a deluxe version of 777.
“I think I might do a deluxe or an extended version, because like I was saying earlier, there are some songs that I wanted to be on the album that couldn’t make it in time. And finishing up my tour.”
