Nothing says Mainstream Sellout more than a No. 1 debut.
Machine Gun Kelly’s latest studio album has earned the top spot on Billboard’s albums chart, Billboard reports. It earned 93,000 equivalent album units in its first week of availability. The No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 is familiar territory for MGK, who earned his first chart-topping album back in 2020 with his pop-punk detour in Tickets to My Downfall. And as it appears, the genre is still helping him do numbers.
MGK’s latest effort saw 42,000 album sales thanks to deluxe editions and box sets from the artist’s website, 50,000 SEA units, and 1,000 TEA units. Mainstream Sellout still would’ve reached the top spot even without physical sales, and it marks the first No. 1 rock album on the Billboard 200 in over a year, following AC/DC’s Power Up in November of 2020.
“It blows my mind, even in the genre that I’m in, when people act like this is like some new thing,” MGK recently told the Howard Stern Show about haters. “[...] It blows my mind. You can literally look back 10 years ago at rock festivals, and my name is right there on the flyer. Like we’ve always been in the culture. I’m super confused where this like, ‘Oh he’s new to the scene’ [claims]. Like, fuck you. We’ve been here so long, defying boxes and genres and odds.”
Sitting below MGK on the chart were former No. 1’s in Lil Durk’s 7220 (No. 2), the Encanto soundtrack (No. 3) and Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album (No. 4).
