Ryan Reynolds Along with Wife Blake Lively, Matches Donations Up to $1 Million to Ukrainian Refugees
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are stepping forward to help.
The celebrity couple announced on Saturday that they would match donations up to $1 million to help support Ukrainian refugees. Announcing the commitment came just days after Russian President Vladimir Putin approved an invasion of Ukraine's Donbas region. Ukraine has reported "serious losses" as a result of airstrikes and missile attacks from Russia, causing tens of thousands of civilians to flee to neighboring countries.
“In 48 hours, countless Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes to neighboring countries. They need protection,” Reynolds wrote, along with a link to the United Nations Refugee Agency. “When you donate, we’ll match it up to $1,000,000, creating double the support.”
A similar announcement was made by Lively on her Instagram account, saying: “@usaforunhcr is on the ground helping the 50,000+ Ukrainians who had to flee their homes in less than 48 hours. @usaforunhcr is providing life saving aid, and also working with neighboring countries to ensure protection for these families.”
