The Lost City, starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, topped the weekend box office with a $31 million debut, Variety reports.
This was enough to knock The Batman out of the top spot, which it had held for three consecutive weekends.
The success of the film is further evidence that Bullock is still one of Hollywood's most bankable movie stars. It also shows there is still a market for romantic comedies, which have long been considered to be extinct.
The Lost City, directed by Aaron and Adam Nee, features Bullock as a middle-aged romantic novelist who embarks on a jungle adventure with the hunky model for her book series, played here by Tatum, who is totally killing it. Daniel Radcliffe delivers an excellent performance as the villainous billionaire. Brad Pitt will also have a cameo on the movie.
All things considered, The Lost City's reign at the top of the box office will likely be short-lived. The superhero movie still reigns supreme, and next week's release of Jared Leto's Morbius will be a testament to that.
