The sequel to Tony Scott's 1986 action classic, Top Gun: Maverick, will finally hit theaters this May after a number of well-publicized delays. Paramount released a new trailer on Tuesday for the Joseph Kosinski-directed entry.
Tom Cruise takes on the role of Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a test pilot training a group of graduates when he encounters the son of his late friend Nick "Goose" Bradshaw. Cruise is also credited as a producer on Maverick, along with Jerry Bruckheimer, Christopher McQuarrie, and David Ellison.
Miles Teller (as Goose's son "Rooster"), Jon Hamm, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, and others will also appear in the sequel, which was originally scheduled for release in summer 2019. Kosinski's film has also confirmed that Kilmer, who played Tom "Iceman" Kazansky in the original Top Gun, will reprise his role. In fact, the new trailer gives us a sneak peek at how Iceman fits into this story.
“That was a huge, huge get—having Val come back to play Iceman,” the director recently said in an interview with Total Film. The reunion of Kilmer and Cruise's characters ended up being one of his "favorites" in the Maverick storyline.
