After Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars on Sunday (March 27) for making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head, which is due to her alopecia, a video Jada posted last week has taken off on social media.
Jada posted the video to talk about shaving her head and dealing with beauty standards in Hollywood over the years. She stated, "Being a Black woman and dealing with hair in Hollywood, in the era I came up in, having your hair look as European as possible was always the thing, and that was really challenging because I liked my hair out wild and curly."
Jada said about shaving her head, "I feel the freedom today. I don't give two craps what people think of this bald head of mine. Because guess what? I love it."
Jada's video has added to the conversation about the situation, as have videos of Chris making jokes about the Smiths while he hosted the Oscars in 2016. This week, Will publicly apologized to Chris about the situation. Chris, however, has yet to publicly respond to Will.
