Wizkid Celebrates Being Grammy Nominated With New Video for ‘True Love’

WizKid celebrated his Grammy nominations by dropping the video for his song "True Love," which features Tay Iwar and Projexx as well as CAY SKIN's Winnie Harlow.

Throughout the Nabil Elderkin-directed video, Wiz performs in an abandoned stadium alongside numerous beautiful women, but it's Winnie Harlow who inevitably catches his eye. The song is from WizKid's blockbuster project Made In Lagos. The deluxe edition of the album is nominated for "Best Global Album" at the 2022 Grammys. The project’s Tems-assisted single “Essence” is also nominated for “Best Music Video” and “Best Global Music Performance.”

In addition to dominating the Billboard charts, WizKid has already won numerous awards for his "Essence" track. The Nigerian crooner won the "Outstanding Music Video/Visual Album" award at the 53rd NAACP Image Awards in February. The Justin Bieber-assisted version also won "Outstanding International Song."

Made in Lagos debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard World Albums chart in October 2020, making it the longest-charting album by a Nigerian artist over the new decade. "Essence" was eventually certified platinum by the RIAA, with Justin Bieber's cut of the song reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021. Skepta, Burna Boy, Ella Mai, Damien Marley, and others also appeared on Made In Lagos.

“The night we made it I actually tweeted something like…Tems and I made magic…I knew it was magic man,” Wizkid said of “Essence” during an interview with Apple Music 1. “I’ve been making this shit for ten years c’mon you think I’m not gonna know?”
